Make Your Own Glass Frit - The Kiln Method

When it comes to being a glass artist you might find that your bills can start adding up quick. However, you can alleviate some of this pressure on your wallet by making your own glass supplies. In this article your learn how to make your own glass frit using the kiln method.

So as you may or may not know frit is basically ground up chunks of glass which can be used for a wide array of affects in your glass art. BTW did you know that fritting (or sintering) is the process of making frit. However, I digress the purpose of this article was to tell you how to make glass frit using the kiln method. So lets continue...

This method of making glass frit is simple and straightforward. Step 1. Wrap your glass in aluminum foil and place it in your kiln. Step 2. Heat your glass in the kiln for about an hour at 400° F / 200° C. Step 3. After about an hour all you have to do is take it out of the kiln and immediately place it into cold water.

Remember to always take proper precautions when handling glass. Even though the glass is wrapped in foil make sure you are wearing eye and hand protection.
